Outlaw Dance Company is a unique and revolutionary dance studio which provides lessons and both competitive and non-competitive performance opportunities for children and adults of ALL ages whether they are looking for an artistic outlet, to get some exercise, and/or to receive the technical training and skills necessary to prepare for a successful career in dance. ODC provides individualized services with close attention to traditional ballet techniques, while still exhibiting highly artistic and creative works of art through styles such as contemporary, modern, hip-hop, lyrical, tap, line dancing, and jazz with a strong focus on competitive dance.

Meet your instructor
Josie Swoboda
Owner and Director

Ms. Josie has been dancing all over the eastern seaboard for about 21 years. She began dancing at the age of five, excelling in acrobatics. She won a national dance competition with a solo at the age of 11 with Dancing Unlimited; a dance studio in southern Georgia. As the daughter of a three-time Iraq combat veteran who served in the Army for 19 years before retiring and settling down in Maine, Ms. Josie has consistently taken many dance classes throughout her life in a wide variety of styles including: tap, ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, ballroom, acrobatics, pointe, cheerleading, musical theatre, etc. in doing so, she has been a part of many productions including: The Little Mermaid, Cats, Cinderella, the Nutcracker (many times), Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast, and A Year with Frog and Toad; with various groups across the country. In high school, she was a part of school musicals, show choir, and band. She also attended Broadway Dance Center on the infamous Broadway in New York City for contemporary dance, her forte. She graduated from Hermon High School with honors. She attended and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree. She majored in Biology with a concentration in pre-medical studies and minored in Dance. During her time at UMO, she learned about relevant topics such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, choreography, ballet, hip-hop, ballroom dance, etc. She served and performed on the UMaine Dance Team as well as performing in the University of Maine’s Fall and Spring Showcases. She also enjoys painting, metal music, and riding motorcycles. Teaching dance and choreographing are her greatest passions, and will continue to be as we kick off our first ever competition season in August of 2024!
